There are, of course, several very famous histories that tell of the mysterious Halflings, and even more great adventure stories in which they play no small part. Even so, Halflings are mysterious, magical folk, preferring a quiet life of farming and leisure to wild journeys. Even those known to have ventured out of their ancestral homelands took with them a love of the soil, a respect for living things, and a cheerful sense of humor against all odds.
The Halfling leader took in the scene ahead. Green, rolling hills were the dominant feature, and a thin river snaked its way among the grass. Wildflowers appeared in abundance, and tall trees ringed the wide, hilly valley. He couldn’t imagine a more ideal place to settle his people, away from the troubles of the wild world. Good soil, a clean river, hills for building homes, and a protective forest to keep away intruders. It was perfect. He turned and looked at the other Halflings behind him, men, women, and children, all weary yet excited to settle in a new home. Now, they just needed a name for this peaceful place.
